3-Days Aberdare Climb/Camping – Le Satima

The 3-Days Aberdare climb/ camping to Le Satima is a wonderful adventure safari that will take you through the Aberdare Ranges. This is a drive-assisted option while the 5 Days is a trekking and hiking safari to the peak Le Satima.

Aberdare is a fascinating national park with stunning hiking terrains, natural forests, and beautiful landscapes. With thick rainforest, spectacular waterfalls, cool mountain breezes and wild moorlands, Aberdare National Park is a hiking, fishing and wildlife paradise. The rich greens of the lichen and mossy forests here present a contrast with the sandy yellows and browns of most other parks. And the cool climate, pervading mists, cold lakes and streams are a world away from the sun-baked hills and savannahs of the more well-known reserves.

Day 1: Nairobi / Aberdare / Reedbuck camp

Depart early for Aberdares National Park through Treetop gate, for game viewing on the salient. Here wildlife is abundant with better visibility. The park is rich with alpine flora and fauna. Scenic features include magnificent waterfalls among others en route to Kiondogoro where we spent the night at Reedbuck campsite.

Day 2: Reedbuck / Honi river camp.

Drive up to Karuru-Mutubio junction to start a 4-5 hours hike on the moorland. The vehicle carrying our camping gear will drive the Honi river camp. The track is dotted with giant heather, tussock grass, open forest glades and rosewood. Arrive at river Honi campsite for overnight in tents. The hike offers opportunities to encounter buffaloes, elephants, reed/bush/waterbuck, and many antelopes – armed with a ranger we expect no problems with animals armed with a ranger. Picnic lunch is served en route.

Day 3: Honi / Le Satima Peak (4001M) / Nairobi

Have breakfast and drive on a steep old track through the forest for 2 hours up the Chebuswa peak to the roadhead to embark on a 2-3 hour trek to Le Satima peak (4001m). On a clear day, there are opportunities to observe Mt. Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro on the horizon and even in the surrounding vicinity of Lake Naivasha Lake Nakuru. Later descend to connect with our vehicle for the return journey to Nairobi. Picnic lunch is served en route.
