This is a journey that takes you to the rich diversity of wildlife in Kenya. Within 2 hour drive from Nairobi, you can reach Lake Naivasha which attracts a host of an awesome variety of wildlife surprisingly without any predators. Naivasha is acknowledged as a world-class birding destination. The waters of the lake to its shore draw a great range of birdlife, and the awesome nature is rarely found elsewhere.
This area is unique for its waterbird viewing, boating in cool water, walking, biking and horse riding and other water sports activities. It also takes you to Lake Nakuru National Park famous for its huge flocks of pink flamingos as well as a rich diversity of other wildlife; Lions, leopards, warthogs, waterbucks, pythons, and white rhinos.
It introduces you to Masai Mara National Reserve known not only for the annual great migration but for year-round exceptional and abundant wildlife. Masai Mara is the most significant game sanctuary getting populated with wildlife enthusiasts and also millions of wildebeests during the high season between July to March. Witness the most wildernesses of the world, enormous herds of grazing animals, Predators, the elusive cheetahs, leopards, and the big five. Also, you can get the opportunity to observe the singing, dancing, and culture of Maa people.
Day 1: Nairobi Excursion.
Pick up from your hotel/ residence and drive to David Sheldrick orphanage. The centre takes care of vulnerable orphaned elephants and later reintroduced them back to the wild. They are assigned personalised care 24 hours a day. They are fed with special milk and heard of picking the natural foliage.
Every individual has their own story, the narration goes hand in hand with the feeding. Public interaction takes about an hour. This paves way for our next destination Mamba village. This is an establishment rearing crocodiles. Here you learn more about Nile crocodiles. Lunch will be served at their restaurant.
After lunch, we drive to the Giraffe Centre. This is run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W. Kenya). The plight of the Rothschild Giraffe is championed here. How is it to feed the giraffe some pellets from your palm or get a kiss? Take to nature trail down to the river enjoying birds’ melodies. Wind up by 5:00 pm to drop you at your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Nairobi – Hell’s Gate
Pick up after breakfast at 7:30 am and drive towards Nakuru. We use Mai-Mahiu road with a stopover at the viewpoint. The scenery includes Suswa, Mt. Margret, Eburu hills, Mt. Longonot, and Lake Naivasha. Drive to Hell’s gate national park, after registration, we embark on the game drive. We take a nature trail and descend to “Ol Njorowa” the famous gorge. Momentarily you will come across hot and cold waterfalls, hot water springs and very beautifully coloured rock striations and formations.
Lunch will be served at the spa cafeteria. Experience the natural geothermal spa at OlKaria, probably the largest in Africa. Refresh and revitalise your body and mind by swimming in the naturally heated swimming pool. Drive to our home for the next two nights – Cray Fish camp. Dine and overnight at the camp.
Day 3: Cresent Island Sanctuary excursion.
Soon after breakfast, we drive to Cresent Island sanctuary with a picnic lunch for a game drive. This is a peninsula and taunted as the most rewarding sanctuary with the highest number of animals per acre. These include giraffes, wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, waterbucks, and hippos among much more.
The avian life includes pelicans, fish eagles, and cormorants just to name a few. There is an observation hill where you can have a 360º panoramic view. We drive back to Cray Fish camp for the night. { Optional boat ride for sunset can be arranged privately.}
Day 4: Naivasha – Maasai Mara
Leave the camp after breakfast to Maasai Mara. We check in at Mara Springs Safari camp by lunch hour. Our first evening game drive starts at 16:00hrs. It is a thrilling one, searching for the elusive predators while the prey plays alert. Returning back at 18:00hrs for dinner and overnight. The nightfall will be characterised by various choruses of the wild game.
Day 5: Maasai Mara
With a picnic lunch, we leave the camp just after breakfast for a full day’s game drive. We explore the rolling savanna grasslands dotted with acacia in search of Africa’s finest game. All the big five can be spotted here hand in hand with the unsung ones that complete the diversity.
Resident animals include elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, rhino, leopard, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, baboons, impalas, warthogs, elands, hartebeest, wildebeest, topi, zebra, jackals just to name a few. The avian population is also wide with over 450 species recorded. Lunch boxes will be opened while viewing crocodiles and hippos at the Sand River. We return to the camp for a deserving shower, dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Maasai Mara – Nairobi
Our last game drive will be a pre-breakfast one at 6:00 am. Early mornings are the best time to witness hunting. This will bring us back to the camp at 9:00. We shall be served breakfast and head back to Nairobi, dropping you at your hotel in the late afternoon after the unforgettable safari.
Options are of course many and varied and in many cases, we can be flexible about the itinerary for accommodation facilities and the extension of the safari destinations.
