Rwenzori previously called the “Ruwenzori Range”. It is situated on the boundary between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). These mountains uphold glacial masses and snow. Consequently, it is the source of the river Nile. The range is about 120km long and 65 km wide. It comprises six massifs isolated by profound crevasses.
In descending order they are; Mount Stanley at 5,109m, Mount Speke at 4,890m, Mount Baker 4,843m, Mount Emin 4,798m, Mount Gessi 4,715m and Mount Luigi di Savoia 4,627m. Mount Stanley has a few auxiliary summits, with Margherita Peak being the highest.
