3-Day Amboseli Safari

The 3-day Amboseli National Park is a short safari. Welcome to the African wildlife theatre that capitalises on the diversity of wildlife in their natural habitat, in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. Equally, get close to free-ranging elephant herds.

Overview

Amboseli National Park is situated in southern Kenya. It is a premier park known for its large elephant herds and views of the immense Mount Kilimanjaro against the backdrop of Tanzania. Observation Hill offers not only panoramas of the peak but also the park’s plains and swamps. Lake Amboseli dominates the western section of the park, which is dry outside of the rainy season.

The park offers excellent viewing of large concentrations of African animals living in this natural habitat. Henceforth, various wildlife includes giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, and hundreds of bird species. The proud Maasai people continue to live outside the park borders. This follows their ancient traditions and tending to their much-treasured cattle. A visit to their homestead gives one insight, indeed, into this lovely community. A 2-night, 3-day Safari takes you to Amboseli National Park, where you will explore the park.

Quick notes

Amboseli National Park is located south of Nairobi, 140 kilometres (3 ½ hours. drive). The park occupies an area of 392 km². The ecosystem is made up of a seasonal lake called Lake Amboseli. Of course, the park derives its name, from swamps, open plains, acacia woodland, rocky outcrops, thorn bushes, and marshes. The landscape is dominated by the backdrop of the majestic snowcap of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. The snow caps are visible when the clouds are clear, mainly in the early morning and late evening. This scene allows one to capture wonderful memories on camera for friends and loved ones back home. Amboseli National Park is considered Kenya’s second-best after the Maasai Mara game reserve by many tourists and is the only national park in Kenya that has the biggest population of elephants.

The ecosystem of Amboseli, though small compared to other parks, sustains a large number of bird species and game. Amboseli offers some of the best opportunities to see African animals because its vegetation is sparse due to the long, dry months. The park is considered ideal for writers, filmmakers, and researchers. The Maasai are the local inhabitants of this area, which they call Empusel, meaning “Dusty place.” Other communities have moved to Amboseli in search of greener pastures. Besides game viewing and the ecstatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, one can visit a local Maasai village to learn about their way of life and to interact with the locals.
