This tour combines the ultimate gorilla trekkingthe highlight of a Rwanda safari. A wonderful form of relaxation is time at Lake Kivu, which is one of the most beautiful lakes in Central Africa.

Certainly, only about 1063 mountain gorillas remain in the world. Rwanda is one of the only three countries, including Rwanda, Uganda, and the DRC, where you can see them in their natural habitat in the Virunga Mountains. Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is easy. The park is located 2½ hours from the capital, Kigali. The city is punctuated by excellent infrastructure and breathtaking landscapes of rolling hills. It has a stunning backdrop of the Virunga Mountains, which host phenomenal mountain gorillas. As a matter of fact, currently, Rwanda has 10 gorilla groups that are habituated for tourism.

Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park, home of the endangered mountain gorillas. This is about a 2½ hour drive from Kigali city to Musanze province. Check in to your lodge, particularly in Ruhengeri, for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Kivu

After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to Kinigi, the park headquarters. A briefing about the endangered mountain gorillas is offered in detail. Armed with your trekking gear, drinking water, and packed lunch, you will be dropped off at the starting point. In the company of ranger guides, you will track the primates. This activity may take between 2 and 7 hours to search for the gorillas, depending on their location and movement. However, meeting them is so rewarding, and you will spend one (1) hour with them as you take time studying them and taking pictures and videos.

The driver will be waiting at the base to transfer you to Gisenyi for about two to three (2–3) hours. Relax at the shores whereas enjoying swimming, and the splendid view of the lake, the mountains, and the islands. Meanwhile, enjoy the fishing boats, reading a book, sun-basking, and the breeze. Enjoy views of Nyiragongo Volcanoes in DR Congo. Dine and stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Boat trip and return to Kigali

After breakfast, you will embark on a boat ride and visit the local fishing villages. Return to the shores and have lunch; thereafter, drive back to Kigali. Dine and stay overnight in a hotel.

Options are, of course, many and varied, and in many cases, we can be flexible about the itinerary for accommodation facilities and the extension of the safari destinations.
